Re-enactment

Hi. My first post on this forum. On the livinghistory.co.uk re-enactment website there is a discussion about the possibilities of staging a re-enactment of the battle on the 500th anniversary in 2013. You may be aware that this period is not covered by many re-enactors so a sizeable event would require input from several groups who would need to spent time making / modifying equipment to suit the era. Would such an event be possible? Could funding be found? Could the site be made available? There is an interest and willingness in the re-enactment community to make this happen. There would be many hurdles to overcome but surely such a momentous event should be commemorated in as spectacular way as possible. What do you think?

Clive,
If EH are involved with the project perhaps you could float the idea with them of holding a Floddon themed re-enactment at their flagship Festival of History event - they did a very good Agincourt feature this year. The whole circus could them move north for the actual anniversary. This would build up enthusiasm for the event and also encourage re-enactors to invest in kit for more that just a one-off. Let me know if you need names / contacts etc.

Cheers

John

re Re-enactment

Hi,just had another think about this re-enactment that will hopefully take place.Certainly a field visit to the battle site is a must to take in the positions of the opposing armies, as they stood. Are there any local people or historians that can get involved also.If you can get an overview in the beginning, and work out a patch of land that can be used for the event. You'll know more about it than me, but if you can engage the local community and get them interested, it could be an annual event in years to come, Lyle.

re Re-enactment

Hi, I think a re-enactment of the battle would be a fantastic idea! There is a lot of preparation involved, and yes, people would have to aquire the garb and accessories of the day and era. But compromise is always appreciated. Armies would use anything that was available to them, especially in that period. So, if you need a Highlander and his claymore! Lyle.
